Morpeth Golf Club Course Guide

1st Milky Way
252 yards. Par 4.
Accuracy off this first tee is paramount. A sensible long iron, to the left of centre, might be preferable to a driver, setting up a short iron for a birdie opportunity on a generous green.

2nd Quarantine
433 yards. Par 4.
Into the wind, two shots to the green is rare. Trees & out of bounds run either side, and a par here is a bonus.

3rd Gully
521 yards. Par 5.
A great 3 shot hole, the drive is into the prevailing wind again. A second shot uphill and over a gully in the fairway should leave a short iron to the back to front sloping green.

4th Cottage
181 yards. Par 3.
Three bunkers protect this green and it plays longer than it looks. Par is a good score.

5th Devil's Elbow
450 yards. Par 4.
A bunker 215 yards from the tee should be noted. Right turn before the fairway straightens out, watching out for out of bounds to the right. If the wind is blowing, hope for a single putt to reach par.

6th Gubeon
498 yards. Par 5.
Two big shots might reach the green, but avoid two bunkers at 125 & 80 yards from the green. Out of bounds runs all along the right, so big hitting, accurate players could aim for a birdie here.

7th Camp
353 yards. Par 4.
From the back tees, this hole plays slight dogleg right. Avoid the pot bunkers just over 200 yards from the tee. Three bunkers protect a generous green.

8th Gap
146 yards. Par 3.
The green slopes left to right, while the bunker in front of the green can make club selection tricky.

9th Tranwell
393 Yards. Par 4.
Hitting the fairway is a must on the final hole before the turn. The second shot plays longer, so again careful club choice is key. Reaching the turn near your handicap sets you up nicely for the back nine.

10th Grindle
568 yards. Par 5.
The longest on the course, the 10th requires a cool head. It’s an awkward green to reach, with a bunker catching shots landing short & left. The green gathers to the right so aim left of the pin.

11th Cheviot View
373 yards. Par 4.
The tee shot if uphill and over the brow of the hill. The fairway gathers left for the first 200 yards, then to the right over the hill. The green has two tiers, and avoid the right tier otherwise three putts are more than likely.

12th Peth
Yards 346. Par4.
A fairway drive should leave you a wedge to the green. A wayward drive will be punished, however, by new trees either side of the fairway 200 300 yards in.

13th Butts
304 yards. Par 4.
A deceptive hole, the fairway slopes steeply to the green which is surrounded by bunkers. A good drive will leave you blind to the green, so consider a long iron off the tee for a flat lie for your second. The green has a severe back to front slope, and in summer this green is sure to test your putting.

14th Trees
181 yards. Par 3.
This downhill hole plays shorter, but don’t let that fool you. The copse to the left and bunkers short and right of the green make it a difficult target.

15th Horseshoe
296 yards. Par 4.
This is the first of two very tempting par 4’s. A solid drive could set you up nicely for a birdie or eagle chance but don’t take anything for granted.

16th Burnside
275 yards. Par 4.
If it’s dry, this is another hole to tempt the golfer into hitting the green in one. Great birdie opportunity.

17th Whins
142 yards. Par 3.
A very accurate tee shot is a must on this cracking short hole. Trees on the left, bunkers left & right, a burn front and out of bounds to the rear means that if you miss the green a bogey will beckon. There is little room for error.

18th Loansdean
392 yards. Par 4.
The fairway is wider than it looks, but a long straight drive is still required. With a sloping green, protected by a front left bunker, a par here is a good score.
